ADHD and the Nature of Self-Control
November 15 & 16, 1999
Lancaster Host Hotel - Lancaster, PA
Program Description
Dr. Barkley will present a new theoretical model of ADHD that includes
a more enriching, comprehensive, and dignifying view of the disorder than do most other
clinical conceptualizations. This new model has important implications for the treatment
and educational management of ADHD.
Dr. Barkley will also discuss clinical diagnostic criteria and
adjustments that clinicians can use to make these criteria more developmentally sensitive.
This will include the nature, developmental course, and adult outcomes of those with ADHD
as well as contemporary findings on the etiology of the disorder.
After discussing the numerous popular yet unproven fads and disproven
remedies often touted for treating ADHD, Dr. Barkley will describe in detail the most
effective treatments, giving greatest emphasis to home and classroom management and the
use of medications.
